Munnar is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams — Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. At 1600 m above sea level, this hill station was the summer resort of the British Government in South India. With its sprawling tea plantations, picture-book scenery and winding lanes, it’s one of the most popular hill stations in Kerala. Munnar also has the highest peak in South India, Anamudi, which towers over 2695m. This peak offers a mildly challenging 3 hour trek through tea-covered slopes to the top.

The Mattancherry Palace was built by the Portuguese in 1555 for the maharaja of Cochin. Later renovated by the Dutch, it came to be known as the Dutch Palace. It has a large central courtyard and a temple depicting scenes from the Ramayana and other legends. The little museum at the palace has a collection of costumes, palanquins and other articles from the royalty.
Eravikulam National Park
This park is the natural habitat of the handsome Tahr (ibex). Half the world population of this rare mountain goat which is fast becoming extinct is found here on the grassy hills dotted with dramatic, black boulders. A great place for trekking, the park offers a magnificent view of the tea plantations and also the rolling hills caressed by blankets of mists. The park becomes a hot destination once every 12 years when the Neelakurinji bathes the hills in a carpet of blue.
