Known as UP, Uttar Pradesh is the heartland of Hinduism, dominating the nation in religion, language politics and culture, and is a fascinating state thanks largely to Agra, the home of the Taj Mahal, and the enthralling city of Varanasi. The mythical and imposing River Ganges runs through the state providing a spiritual backbone. The region is also home to Fatehpur Sikri, an awe inspiring deserted palace complex, and Sarnath the haunting ruins where Buddha gave his first sermon. Although home to one of the eight wonders of the world, ensure you delve deeper into this wonderful historically and politically important state.
